PATLS PRESIDENT'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH AND PAPER PRESENTATION ON REPUBLIC ACT NO. 9246 AND LIS EDUCATION On behalf of the newly elected members of the PATLS Board, I stand before you, humbled by this honor of being elected to the Board and the Presidency of PATLS. It is an honor, but, more importantly, it is a big responsibility and the challenges are great and sometimes, it seems, insurmountable. For PATLS is tasked with education for the profession that we all love, and education is not an easy task, especially in these modern times when rapid changes happen at the blink of an eye and so much distracts from the essential which, as Saint-Exupery has said, is often hidden from the eyes. |

PATLS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM by Maria A. Orendain, Ed. D. The PATLS Scholarship Program Started during the incumbency of Prof. Teresita G. Hernandez in 1994. The Program aims to help poor but deserving undergraduate Library and Information Science (LIS) students. The first recipient of the scholarship program that was chaired by Prof. Erlinda F. Flores from the University of Santo Tomas was Ms. Gilda Tamondong of Philippine Normal University. Guidelines for scholarship were periodically reviewed to meet the changing needs of time. An increase in the number of grantees was noted as the Association increased its financial capability derived from the annual review classes. Each grantee was given an amount of one to two thousand pesos (P1,000.00-P2,000.00) per semester. |
