PATLS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The PATLS Scholarship Program Started during the incumbency of Prof. Teresita G. Hernandez in 1994. The Program aims to help poor but deserving undergraduate Library and Information Science (LIS) students.

The first recipient of the scholarship program that was chaired by Prof. Erlinda F. Flores from the University of Santo Tomas was Ms. Gilda Tamondong of Philippine Normal University.

Guidelines for scholarship were periodically reviewed to meet the changing needs of time. An increase in the number of grantees was noted as the Association increased its financial capability derived from the annual review classes. Each grantee was given an amount of one to two thousand pesos (P1,000.00-P2,000.00) per semester.

A remarkable increase in the allotment of scholarship from forty thousand pesos (P40,000.00) to eighty thousand pesos (P80,000.00) was made in 1998 during the term of Prof. Teresita C. Moran.

During the term of Dr. Edna J. Recaña in 2003, the Chair of the Committee on Scholarship, Dr. Maria A. Orendain, was assigned to revise the guidelines in order to maintain the objective of the scholarship program by considering the annual family income of the grantee(s) with less than fifteen thousand pesos (P15,000.00). The scholarship is granted to third year undergraduate students whose applications were approved by the Committee on Scholarship with a general average of 2.0 or its equivalent. Each scholar is granted an amount of three thousand pesos (P3,000.00) per semester in the form of a book allowance until they finish their LIS course.
